Meet Treasure

We were lucky to catch up with Treasure recently and have shared our conversation below.

Treasure, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Embarking on a journey into the world of vegan baking wasn’t just about creating delicious treats without animal products; it became a catalyst for boosting my confidence and self-esteem. As a beginner, the challenges I faced in the kitchen mirrored the hurdles I had encountered in life, ultimately leading to personal growth and empowerment.

As a beginner, self-doubt was a constant companion. However, with each successful recipe and each positive response, I chipped away at the self-limiting beliefs that held me back. Over time, I learned to trust my instincts and capabilities.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a passionate creator of delicious handmade vegan desserts. I have made a commitment to using only plant-based ingredients to craft treats that are not only indulgent but also aligned with ethical and health-conscious values.

I create a range of desserts from cookies to cakes and sweat breads. I grew up in the islands, so I love to incorporate unique tropical flavors in my desserts as well as create twists on classic flavors. I am also able to accommodate specialized diets and will often have options available at pop-up events.

Due to diet restrictions, I needed to switch up the way I ate. I still wanted to indulge in delicious desserts. Most of the desserts available were pretty bland or dry. I knew there had to be a better way without breaking the bank.

I started out sharing my vegan creations with friends and family to spread joy. Yes, baking is my love language. I mean, who doesn’t like free baked goods? The positive reactions and support I received bolstered my self-esteem and motivated me to continue experimenting and baking with enthusiasm.

I will say though, the (many) failed attempts at vegan baking initially discouraged me. If anyone hasn’t told you yet … baking is a science! One misjudged substitution or inaccurate measurement can change the outcome of your dessert. I realized that mistakes were stepping stones toward improvement. By reframing setbacks as opportunities to learn and refine my recipes, I developed resilience and a healthier perspective on failure.

Every perfectly risen cake and beautifully textured muffin became a cause for celebration. Sometimes I purposefully don’t tell my family when a new “creation” is plant-based and they will not realize if I don’t mention it.

I am not very tech-savy with social media and my online presence, but I am working on it. I am in the process of revamping my website that will allow for preorders as the fall /holiday season is upon us. I post most frequently to TikTok and Instagram, so be sure to follow me there for the most up-to-date info.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my vegan baking journey, three qualities that played a pivotal role were patience, adaptability, and a thirst for learning. Patience allowed me to embrace the learning curve and turn setbacks into opportunities. Adaptability enabled me to experiment with new ingredients and techniques, leading to creative breakthroughs. A hunger for learning pushed me to explore different resources, from cookbooks to online tutorials, which expanded my knowledge base and refined my skills.

For those starting their journey, I’d recommend:

1. Cultivating Patience: Understand that mastery takes time. Embrace failures as learning experiences and celebrate even the smallest wins. With patience, you’ll build resilience and keep progressing.

2. Embracing Adaptability: Don’t be afraid to venture beyond your comfort zone. Experiment with various ingredients and techniques to discover what works best for you. Embracing adaptability fosters innovation and keeps your journey exciting.

3. Pursuing Lifelong Learning: Stay curious and open to new knowledge. Dive into resources like books, online forums, and cooking classes. The more you learn, the more confident and skilled you’ll become.

Ultimately, remember that every journey is unique, and growth takes time. Be kind to yourself, enjoy the process, and let your passion for vegan baking drive you forward.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely, I’m always open to collaborating with fellow enthusiasts in the vegan baking community! I’m particularly interested in connecting with individuals who share a passion for creating innovative vegan recipes, food photographers who can capture the beauty of plant-based creations, and bloggers/writers who can help spread the joy of vegan baking.
