Andrea Binder loves beauty and making things beautiful. It’s a way for her to look and listen for all God allows her to see and hear. She’s an artist, painting with vibrant colors on large canvases. In her garden and her home, she joins God in creating and nurturing beauty. She counsels, speaks to groups and teaches because she loves to draw out the beauty in people’s lives.
Both raised in Southern California, she and Gene Binder have been married for more than four decades. They’ve called Boulder, Colorado, and the faith community they founded, Cornerstone Boulder, home since 1994. Their daughter Lisa, is a yoga teacher and counselor in Boulder and mother to four children, Hannalee, Caleb, Noah and Mia. Their son Michael is a music producer in Boulder.
Andrea experienced trauma at a young age, and its destructive effects rippled through her life. Yet God has taken her on a bold healing journey to transform that painful past into a display of His beautiful work. It was during a very difficult season in their marriage that she and Gene began following Jesus.
Out of her own experience of trials and hope, Andrea developed a desire to help people walk through life’s challenges, and she now shares her faith story with vulnerability and freedom.
In her book, When the Soul Surrenders, Andrea tells her story and tenderly guides readers into their own transformational journey of surrender. Speaking at retreats and teaching have taken her around the world. Andrea founded and ran Abundant Life Counseling (now called Bold Journey) for 12 years and developed what has become a vibrant women’s program to meet weekly for friendship and Bible study.
She recently retired from counseling to focus solely on her art and Bold Journey. She also created the event “Art in the Garden,” and her works can be seen in coffee houses and gallery art shows. In the near future, Andrea plans on offering groups designed for women to explore the art of surrender.
